OWH Sketch 249: Doodle Pantry Sponsorship

Here's the sketch which I flipped and took some liberties to use a film strip rather than banners or squares.  Sketches are supposed to inspire, right?  :-)

The Paper Players Sketch Challenge #233

I just realized I made this card a couple days ago and never posted for the latest Paper Players Sketch Challenge...geez!  Anyway, I had fun with it and really liked Sketch #233.  I know I have a few more minutes to link it up, so here it goes!

The kraft layer was embossed with woodgrain, then I brayered it with Distress Walnut Stain.  I tucked the little die cut owl (Memory Box) in the die cut circle (MFT) and added the sentiment (The Stamps of Life) banner and a little twine.  This will make a cute kid's card for Operation Write Home so I'm adding it to the Operation Write Home Mid-Month Challenge:  Cards for Kids.

Tuesday Morning Sketches #289: Bird Crazy or Crazy Bird?

Here's this week's Tuesday Morning Sketch #289:

And here's my card:

I thought this little bird from Tim Holtz' Bird Crazy collection looked sooo sad :-(  Perfect for a Missing You card.  I actually think some of the other birds look a little mad (maybe it's just me) but I'll have to think about how to use them!  I watercolored this chubby guy with Mustard Seed and the sky with Tumbled Glass Distress Inks.  The sentiment is from Hero Arts (for OWH).  His buggy little eyes were touched up with Glossy Accents.  He is perched on a branch die from Memory Box and the enamel dots are from MME.

SOS #190: Bugs & Kisses

The challenge from Shopping Our Stash this week is to create an "Out of the Jar" card. 

For my card, I used Neenah Solar White for the card base and stenciled a honeycomb pattern (Tim Holtz) with Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink.  The cute little bees and jar are from a Lawn Fawn stamp and die set called Bugs and Kisses.  I picked up this set at my local LSS with every intention of using it for Valentines Day cards.  Well, that didn't happen but I've been wanting to ink up these cuties in a bad way.  I colored the jar and bees with Copic markers, used a silver Sharpie for the jar lid, and added Wink of Stella to the wings.  The jar and bees are popped up with foam tape.  The sentiment was stamped with VersaFine Onyx Black Ink.

Doodle Pantry New Release: Teeny Butterfly

Doodle Pantry New Release...Whoops!

Who doesn't love sock monkeys??  Doodle Pantry's new release today features an amazing set of darling little sock monkeys that I just had to use.  My card is using one of the images, DP, and a sentiment from the new set "Funky Sock Monkey".  AND...Funky Sock Monkey is an OWH fundraiser!  Laurie will donate $1.00 of each sale of this set to Operation Write Home.  Nice!

Cards in Envy Challenge: Puppy Love

Wowzer!  There were sure a lot of wonderful cards in the last Cards in Envy Challenge!  Today is the first day of the newest challenge from Cards in Envy:  Puppy Love.  The theme is to create an A2 card that features man's best friend, the dog.  A cat or two is okay too as long as there's a puppy In the mix.  If you haven't noticed from my blog, I have a lot of puppy love running around my house and I'm always excited to use my paw stamp :-)

My card to share is on a Bazzill Kraft card base with DP from Graphic 45's "Raining Cats & Dogs" paper pad.  (One of my faves!)  I inked up a darling puppy stamp from Great Impressions, colored him with Copics, and perched him on top of an embossed brick wall (Sizzix EF).  The die cuts are all Spellbinders.  I added my Comotion puppy paw stamp on the tag then stamped an Avery Elle sentiment in Kraft Ink.  The card was finished off with some red/kraft ribbon (Tim Holtz).  I like how the fussy cut legs of the puppy dangle over the wall :-)

TMS #287: Happy Bird-Day!

Well, I think I'm caught up on the Challenges I usually play this week.  I'm so envious of those bloggers that can pull all the challenges out there together, do one card, and enter it multiple times.  I, on the other hand, seem to do one card at a time.  Maybe it's a retirement thing?  After years of having to be soooo organized, I refuse to do so?

Anyway, here's this week's fun sketch from Tuesday Morning:

That darling chubby little pelican is from Laurie's latest new releases over at Doodle Pantry called Feathery Friends.  I'm a beach bum at heart, so I just had to use him!  The background is a Heidi Swapp Polka Dot Stencil and some VersaMark Ink.  The blue strip of Bazzill swiss dot cardstock was embossed with a wave EF from Darice, and I added a little wave action under my feathery friend (EK Success border punch).  I fussy cut the starfish, coated him with Glossy Accents and popped him up on the pilings.  The stitched oval diecut is from My Favorite Things.

CSSC #1: Happy Valentines Day

There's a new sketch challenge out in blogland called The Crooked Stamper Sketch Challenge hosted by the very talented Leslie Hanna.  I think her projects are wonderful and I really can relate to the Crooked Stamper title, because I am :-)  The Challenge runs for 3 weeks which works for me...plenty of time to NOT miss a deadline, because I do!

I'm linking up my last Valentines card.  I've already made more than I can ever use but I <3 making them and can't seem to stop! 

This card features a digi from Stitchy Bear Digi Outlet by Kaz Kraftz called Beary Happy.  I just love this little bear!  I added the V-Day sentiment from Doodle Pantry, and a couple of small hearts with Glossy Accents.  The diecuts are all from My Favorite Things.  As my DGS would say, "easy peasey, lemon squeezy!"  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a delicious Valentines Day!

And I'm going to listen to their post and NOT STRESS...LOL!  Don't get me wrong - I love color challenges because it lets me use more crayons in the box (or ink as it were) that I might not use very often.  This card started out with the intent of something totally different with a lot less stamping but once I started, I couldn't stop!  Sorta like eating chocolate...

Tuesday Morning Sketches #286

 

I rotated the sketch and flipped the sentiment element to the left.  My critter hiding in the jungle is an adorable gorilla from the new Doodle Pantry release, "Lil Gorilla Jungle."  The DP is from a very old DCWV paper pad, "Animal Crackers."  I added leaf diecuts and an ivy vine (Memory Box) and topped off with a silver brad and natural twine (May Arts). 

 

 



This will be my grandson's Valentine's card!  He loves jungle animals and this image & sentiment is perfect :-)

My card today is for the following challenges:

The Mixed Media Challenge #8: Love Theme

I created an ombre background with Koi watercolors and Perfect Pearls and layered on Kraft cardstock.  The diecut heart is made of strips of washi tape on cardstock, popped over another washi tape strip.  The MFT sentiment was stamped with Stazon Jet Black ink and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  I added silver metallic décor (Hero Arts) on the heart for some "male bling."  The SOS challenge was to use the oldest ink we had.  This was the first ink pad I had ever bought when I started my cardmaking adventures.  The heat embossing helped it show up a little better since the pad was pretty dry!  I also finished the inside with a liner and coordinating hearts and washi tape.

Cards In Envy Challenge: Hearts All A Flutter!

The fun challenge just announced over at Cards in Envy is to create an A2 card with at least 2 hearts on it, just in time for Valentines Day! If you don't do Valentines Day cards, any card with hearts would work just as well (missing you, thinking of you, love you, etc.).

The card I'm sharing today is using a new stamp set from MFT called Whimsical Wishes and MFT's Staggered Heart Border die.  The sentiment is from Avery Elle.  I stamped the border stamp on Neenah Solar White cardstock.  Love this stamp...it looks like wrapped twine!  The staggered hearts were die cut twice, once on red cardstock and again on black/white polka dot cardstock.  I inlaid a couple of the die cuts and framed them with Glossy Accents.  I stamped the sentiment twice (red and black) for a little bit of a shadow, added some bling, and finished it off with a black silk cord bow.

Words 2 Scrap By #14: Do Something Different

The challenge over at Words 2 Scrap By for February is to "Do Something Different."  I'm always game for getting out of a rut and trying something new.  So...I plugged in the eBrush I bought with a Christmas gift card, loaded up a Spectrum Noir marker, and happily began spraying ink all over the place...LOL!  I definitely need practice at this airbrushing thing!  I didn't get too fancy for my first adventure but was actually happy with the results for the background layer.  In person it looks a bit like stone.

The rest of the card came together a bit quicker once the spraying frenzy was over.  I stamped the hearts in VersaFine Onyx Black ink on the airbrushed background.  Then I stamped it 7 more times on scrap paper so I could fussy cut and paper piece the hearts.  The sentiment is from Avery Elle and the black layer was die cut with the femme frame from Mama Elephant.

I hope you'll venture outside of your comfort zone and do something different for the W2SB challenge this month.  Helpful hint:  If you practice airbrushing, move things that are NOT part of the project out of the way :-))  Thanks so much for stopping by today!  We look forward to seeing your projects!
