Up, Up & Away

Hi friends!  I only had time for one challenge card this week so I went with The Paper Players Challenge #259 which is a sketch challenge:

I thought I'd use this fun sketch to get a jump on my Halloween cards, so here you go!

 

I inked up the background with Distress inks and used a white gel pen for tiny stars.  The moon is a die cut circle from the I can't throw anything away box.  I distressed the edges and added shimmer spray.  I wish it photographed better - it's really shimmery!  The banner element is actually the punched out pieces of a border die.  I used the negative to glue them on the card so the spacing wasn't all over the place.  The witch silhouette is popped up with foam adhesive.  I finished it off with a sentiment from a hot air balloon stamp set.  Here's the stuff I used:

Inks:  Distress (Hickory Smoke, Chipped Sapphire, Festive Berries, Squeezed Lemonade, VersaFine Onyx Black

Happy Fall....already?!?

It was 90 degrees while I was making this card for the Tuesday Morning Sketch Challenge #314.  But, they were talking about Pumpkin Spice Lattes (yum) on the news last night so I thought why not start the fall cards :-)

I love the Pumpkin set over at Doodle Pantry and used the images a lot last year.  I printed it twice so I could fussy cut the leaves and flower.  The digi background paper is from Doodle Pantry's Pumpkin Carving Ants set.  I die cut two circles out of corrugated cardboard and added some vines to mimic the image.  The sentiment is from The Stamps of Life.  The little clip and ribbon are from my stash.

Watch the Waves

Life gets in the way and I usually miss more challenge deadlines than I care to admit.  My card was originally made for the last challenge over at The Male Room for a beach/vacation theme but never made it there because I was on vacation :-).  Fortunately, I did use newsprint DSP for the background so I'm hoping I can fit this into Challenge #17 to use newsprint:

Here's my card:

I used MFT's Cheescloth background stamp on the ivory card base.  The newsprint DSP is from Prima's Seashore collection, trimmed to keep the great sentiments on the bottom of the paper.  I stamped the crab from Tim Holtz's Mariner stamp set in Momento Tangelo ink on heavyweight vellum and heat embossed.  The vellum was then mounted to the back of the MFT stitched circle frame die cut.  Lastly, I added some Hero Arts gold metallic dots to resemble a port hole.

Perfect

That one word describes the beach for me - Perfect!  I went with the following CAS card for The Paper Players Challenge #258:

I die cut a frame out of sea foam cardstock and layered gauze for the background.  The sand dollar die cut was watercolored and sprayed with shimmer spray, then popped up on the gauze.  The sentiment was stamped in dark brown ink and then traced with a brown Wink of Stella pen.  Lastly, I drew a line border with the same brown pen.  Here's the stuff I used:

Cardstock:  Paper Zone Sand (for card base), American Crafts Sea Foam
Stamp(s):  Little Yellow Bicycle
Ink:  Colorbox Chocolate
Dies:  Sizzix/Tim Holtz Sand & Sea
Other:  Wink of Stella Fine Glitter Dust pen, Recollections clear rhinestone, DCWV Gauze Paper, Distress Marker (Pumice Stone), foam adhesive

Oh, Shoot!

Oh, Shoot!  I missed mailing another birthday card on time so I came up with this one (because he's a camera nut :)

The challenge over at Shopping our Stash #215 is "Layer It On Me" and there are a bunch on this card.  I also used The Crooked Stamper's latest sketch challenge, CSSC #7, because I really liked it!  Seriously...I am not sucking up, Leslie!  LOL!

 

It all started with the black filmstrip die cut that was laying on my desk.  I can't toss anything!  I stamped and embossed the background layer.  The next layer is DSP from "I wish I hadn't cut off the company name."  I added photo corners, then the filmstrip die cut, and finally popped up bits from an epherma package and die cut arrows with an embossed sentiment.

Cards in Envy Challenge - Cute and Cuddly

Happy Monday and we hope you'll play along in the latest Cards in Envy Challenge!  The theme is Cute and Cuddly and your A2 card should be flat enough for mailing in an envy.  Use whatever you think is cute and cuddly - puppies, kittens, teddy bears, bunnies, etc.

For a little inspiration, I made this card for my very cute and cuddly grandson:

 

This teddy bear from Kaz Kraftz over at Stitchy Bear's Digi Outlet is called Beary Happy and it always makes me smile when I see him.  I fussy cut the image and then cut him in half so he could hang on to the sentiment banner (MFT).  I promise it didn't hurt him a bit :-).  The cardstock is from Memory Box and the DSP is an old paper pad from K&Company.  I finished it off with some sparkly pink enamel hearts from my stash.

Seriously?

I put together this card this morning for the latest Paper Players Challenge #256:

I rarely make square cards after making so many for Operation Write Home, I'm wired for A2.  This was fun to be "square" and I felt like I had soooo much more room!  My card is 5.25" x 5.25" and I actually have an envelope to mail it in...score!

Like everybody I know, I'm a little Bird Crazy.  I watercolored the quirky birds with Distress Markers and then die cut.  I struggle with their expressions sometimes so felt I had to add a little sarcasm with the sentiment from Paper Smooches.  The branch is a piece of corrugated cardboard that I swiped a brown ink pad over.  The little leaves are from a tiny little punch (Recollections, I think).  The digi cloud layer (free download at Birds Cards) was glued on top of another piece of corrugated cardboard inked up with Distress Ink on the edges.

Seriously, aren't they weird but a little cute?  Thanks so much for stopping by! 

SOS #213: Show Us Your Snark

The SOS Challenge this week is to make a snarky card.  I went through all my stamps and I'm pretty snarkless in Seattle :-)  I remembered one stamp from The Rubber Café that I thought was hilarious.  True story...I used it last year on my brother's birthday card.  No response (and I always get one when I send a card) so I asked him if he received it.  He said he did, thanked me, but didn't think it was all that funny.  Maybe because it was a milestone birthday?  Anyway, that's how I know it's a snarky stamp - LOL!

Cards in Envy Challenge: Birthday Party

Happy Monday!  Who doesn't love a birthday party??  The latest challenge from Cards in Envy starts today and the theme is Birthday.  Create an A2 birthday card that will fit in an envy without extra postage.  That gives you extra money for the present, right?

I'm in love with this "Under the Sea" set from Simon Says Stamp!  I used the wave stencil with Salty Ocean Distress Ink and splattered some water on it for bubbles, glub, glub.  I used a Little B circle die to cut out a window into the sea and layered it on top.  The adorable fish were colored with Copics and die cut.  I added a little balloon covered with Glossy Accents, cut a little slit, and attached the embroidery thread to the little guy's mouth.  The treasure chest on the sea bottom is from the same set, fussy cut, and, wait, who is that peeking out with white gel pen eyes??

AIMPDC #8 - Any Digi Goes

I don't know about you, but I can't believe it's already August!  And the school commercials are starting!  What???

The good news is that it is August and time for AIMPDC #8 over on the Doodle Pantry Blog :-)  Use any digi on your project and link it up so we can see those beautiful creations!

My DT card is using the Sea Shells outline image and a sentiment from Snowy Egret.  I colored the image with Prismacolor pencils and used aqua chalk for the sky.  I then sprayed the layer with Modge Podge Pearlized Glaze to seal it and give it all kinds of shimmer - like a sunny day at the beach!  I added some enamel dots from MME, cut the corners with a circle punch, and layered it on some kraft cardstock.  The final touch is a twine bow from May Arts.  Pretty CAS for me!

W2SB #20: Calling All Book Lovers

Happy August 1st and time for another fun challenge over at Words 2 Scrap By!  This month we are celebrating books and National Book Lovers Day on August 9th.  The challenge to you is to create a project based on a title or quotation from a book. 

Since I'm just c-r-a-z-y about my 5 year old grandson, I wanted to focus on a children's book.  One of my faves has always been Winnie the Pooh.  You gotta love that silly old bear...he's the bestest of the best!  When I put this card together I showed my grandson and his "nice card for a baby" comment reminded me that he's not a baby anymore!  Just ask him and he'll tell you!  Maybe I should have gone with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...hmmmm :-)

 I fussy cut Pooh images from Sandy Lion's Winnie the Pooh DSP and inlaid them in my comic strip die cut frame from Papertrey.  The bees, dies, and sentiments are from The Stamps of Life.  There's Wink of Stella on the wings and Glossy Accents on Pooh's eyes and nose.  I also stamped some of the backgrounds in Versamark and clear embossed for a tone-on-tone look.  So much fun!
