CAS(E) This Sketch #133

Hi All,

This card was put together for CAS(E) This Sketch #133:

I really liked this sketch and wanted to try a couple of new products (new to me, that is :)  I'd also like to enter this card in the Operation Write Home Mid-Month Throwdown which is to create a Love card without hearts.  It was h-a-r-d to do but not a heart anywhere!  This is also the last card to go into the OWH box which makes it a bittersweet project.

The card was masked off with painters tape.  Note to self...do not buy the cheapest painters tape!  The middle section was sponged with Evergreen Bough Distress Ink.  When I pulled up the tape...eek, it tore the paper a bit.  So...I sponged two borders with Delicata Gold Ink and heat embossed.  Covered that little rip right up!  The leaf is stamped in Stazon Chai Tea, as is the die cut and sentiment.  The "You" die cut was inked up and heat embossed three times for a real enamel look.  Lastly, I used this gold colored texture spray by Imagine Crafts to drop gold splatters.  The cool thing is they look like enamel dots.  Gotta love those sale bin items!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I did want to end with a little note about card donations.  With OWH closing August 1st, I made contact with a local Assisted Living Facility.  Come to find out they would LOVE to have handmade cards for their residents' use.  Most are on a very limited budget and cannot afford greeting cards.  They are of the letter-writing generation and are very excited to soon be receiving donated cards to send off to loved ones.  I'm happy and they're happy!  Have a great weekend!

OWH Mid-Month Throwdown: Red, White & Blue

The March Mid-Month Throwdown for Operation Write Home is to create a card using red, white & blue in any of the five OWH themes (Miss You, Love, Thank You, Birthday, and Thinking of You).

I am way behind with my Any Hero cards, so went with a simple card to a Super Star Hero!

The DP was in my scrap bin and I'm not sure where it's from.  I layered it on MFT Blueberry cardstock after die cutting a star.  I then die cut another smaller red star and heat embossed the sentiment (Stampendous) with white detail embossing powder.  The red star is popped up a bit with foam tape.

Thanks very much for visiting!

The Paper Players Sketch Challenge #233

I just realized I made this card a couple days ago and never posted for the latest Paper Players Sketch Challenge...geez!  Anyway, I had fun with it and really liked Sketch #233.  I know I have a few more minutes to link it up, so here it goes!

The kraft layer was embossed with woodgrain, then I brayered it with Distress Walnut Stain.  I tucked the little die cut owl (Memory Box) in the die cut circle (MFT) and added the sentiment (The Stamps of Life) banner and a little twine.  This will make a cute kid's card for Operation Write Home so I'm adding it to the Operation Write Home Mid-Month Challenge:  Cards for Kids.

Thanks for stopping by...have a great weekend!

OWH Midweek Throwdown - Soldier

Well, I don't have a soldier image (need to fix that) but I wanted to play and make an AnyHero card, so I stretched the rules here!  Whenever I see camo, I think soldier.  I had camo paper and I had the terrific hero die from Die-Versions so I'm throwing caution to the wind and linking up.  Thanks for visiting and hopefully I'll be forgiven for straying a bit :-)

Cardstock: Simply Smooth Ivory
DP:  Glimpses "Pages of Honor" 6x6 Paper Pad

Hats Off To You!

The OWH Midweek Throwdown is to create an AnyHero Card with Stars.  For my card, I used one of the July new releases from Doodle Pantry called "Topped with Class."  It's a fun set with lots of different hats.  I did merge the flag from the "Let Freedom Ring" (also from Doodle Pantry) to the ball cap.  I embossed the background and die cut stars.  Easy peasey!

Supplies:  Bazzill Cardstock, Doodle Pantry "Topped with Class" & "Let Freedom Ring" Digital Images & Sentiment, Cuttlebug "Stars" Embossing Folder, and Momenta Star Dies.

Thanks for visiting today!  There's still time to play in a couple of other great challenges.  Click below to get the scoop...you'll be glad you did!

Red, White & Blue Thank You!

I just returned from vacation and had a terrific time camping.  I do think the 'skeeters had a better time than I did based on the number of bites I have!  Today I'm playing a little catch-up with some challenges ~ vacations are fun but I do miss my ATG when I'm away!

My card is an AnyHero card for Operation Write Home.  The Midweek Throwdown over at the OWH blog was to create a red, white & blue AnyHero card with a flag. I'm hoping this will make some hero's day to know they are so appreciated.  I also want to enter this card in the Tuesday Morning Sketches Challenge #256 and the Shopping Our Stash Challenge #158 using red, white, and blue.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you had a safe 4th of July with family & friends!  AND, if you have time, please check out the challenges at the Words 2 Scrap By and Doodle Pantry blogs!  Always a good time :-)

Cheeseburger!

The OWH Midweek Throwdown is BBQ Time with a Cheeseburger Challenge.  I remembered I had picked up a set from Doodle Pantry last year when they sponsored a fundraiser for Operation Write Home.  Although the fundraiser is over, Doodle Pantry still donates to OWH on an ongoing basis.  The set I used is called "Missing You" and has some great sentiments PLUS a cheeseburger!  Doodle Pantry donates $1.00 from the sale of this set to OWH!

Thanks for takin' a look!  I think its time for lunch now...LOL!  You should also check out Doodle Pantry's Blog for the latest challenge - Make it Manly.  There will be three lucky winners this month!

Have a great day!

OWH Midweek Throwdown: Pink and Gray/Black Color Challenge

The Throwdown this week is to create a card using either pink & gray or pink & black.  I've always liked that color combo!  For my card I decided to go with the Love theme for donating to Operation Write Home.  I used the last of one of my favorite paper pads from Doodlebug Designs.  It feels good to use up a pad but now I want to get another one just like it!  Thanks for stopping by and hope your week is going well!

OWH Midweek Throwdown: April Showers Bring May Flowers

OWH Midweek Throwdown: Masculine Thinking of You

I strayed a bit from the Operation Write Home Throwdown this week and made this a love card for a hero to send to a small boy.  Still masculine but I wanted to add a charm to the puppy's collar and "love you" is what I could find :).

The card uses the "Puppy Presents" image and sentiment from Doodle Pantry.  The DP is from a new Bo Bunny set called "Happy Tails Collection" that I just had to have!  I added a collar and tag and a little bit of glossy accents to the bone.

Don't forget...Doodle Pantry's May Releases are announced tomorrow.  There's some good stuff there for guy cards!  Also, Words 2 Scrap By's May Challenge also starts tomorrow and it's a fun one!  Thanks so much for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your week...woof!

#1 Dad

This week's Operation Write Home Midweek Throwdown was a color challenge using brown.  I used Mojo Monday Sketch #342 for this card (which I think is fantastic) so I could enter their challenge as well!

I used Die-Versions #1 Dad die so this card could be sent by our troops at any time of the year rather than being Father's Day specific.  I also wrangled up all my scraps (yippee) and made two more for OWH!  Thanks for stopping by ~ I appreciate your visit!

#1 Dad:

Supplies:  Curious Gold Lightspecks Cardstock, Vintage Lane DP, Die-Versions #1 Dad Sweet Spots Die, The Paper Studio Burlap Heart & Stamp Heart, Recollections Gold Brads, Ranger/Tim Holtz  Distresser and Corduroy Distress Ink.
