W2SB #22: Fight Like A Girl

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and W2SB wants to help spread the word. Create a project supporting awareness and our fight for a cure.  Or, create an encouraging  message for a friend or family member.  My card is in memory of my dear friend, Sandra.  She fought like a girl and those that loved her are continuing that fight.

I'd also like to send hugs to my fellow I-Teamer, Penny, and congratulate her on being a SURVIVOR!  She gives hope to others and I'm taking her suggestion to heart and making a few of the following card for others at my local Breast Cancer Center.  Again, very simple, but hopefully sending a strong message:

Mmmmm....Chocolate!

I'm a firm believer that chocolate is a food group on its own, so with Words 2 Scrap By's July Challenge starting today, I had to go with chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone, of course! 

I started with The Stamps of Life ice cream stamps, stamping the waffle cone on Kraft with Colorbox Chocolate :) ink.  Then stamped the ice cream (also in Chocolate ink).  I fussy cut both images, adding a fussy cut cherry with green twine stem on top.  The ribbon is from my stash and the sentiment (you guessed it) also stamped in Chocolate ink and mounted on the ribbon with tiny brads.  I dry embossed a woven background on the ivory layer.

W2SB #18: It's a Man's World

Welcome back!  It's June 1st and time for another Words 2 Scrap By challenge!  The theme this month is "It's a Man's World" and we're looking for a guy card for any occasion:  Father's Day, birthdays, graduation, bachelor party, etc.

My card is a spin-off of a girly card that I did for my best friend.  You can see that one HERE.  This time I went for a clean guy look for Father's Day.  My Dad is a HUGE baseball fan and this sentiment should really hit home for him (get it?).

Words 2 Scrap By #14: Do Something Different

The challenge over at Words 2 Scrap By for February is to "Do Something Different."  I'm always game for getting out of a rut and trying something new.  So...I plugged in the eBrush I bought with a Christmas gift card, loaded up a Spectrum Noir marker, and happily began spraying ink all over the place...LOL!  I definitely need practice at this airbrushing thing!  I didn't get too fancy for my first adventure but was actually happy with the results for the background layer.  In person it looks a bit like stone.

The rest of the card came together a bit quicker once the spraying frenzy was over.  I stamped the hearts in VersaFine Onyx Black ink on the airbrushed background.  Then I stamped it 7 more times on scrap paper so I could fussy cut and paper piece the hearts.  The sentiment is from Avery Elle and the black layer was die cut with the femme frame from Mama Elephant.

I hope you'll venture outside of your comfort zone and do something different for the W2SB challenge this month.  Helpful hint:  If you practice airbrushing, move things that are NOT part of the project out of the way :-))  Thanks so much for stopping by today!  We look forward to seeing your projects!

W2SB #10: Paved with Paw Prints

Happy October!  Inspired by National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, Words 2 Scrap By's October Challenge theme is "The road to my heart is paved with paw prints."  This really hits home for me.  My four rescue pups are pictured at the top right of this blog.  It all started when I brought a stray home at age 6 and I've been happily adopting ever since!  So, with the fondest memories and many paw prints on my heart, this card is for Tinkerbelle, B.D., Beau, Josie, Abe, Chloe, Bailey, and Harley - for ending many of my days with dog slobber :-)

W2SB: To Everything There is a Season

Hello!  I can't believe it's September and it seems like so many things start to change this time of year.  Especially the big, old maple tree in the background when the leaves change into so many different colors.  It's beautiful but I won't be saying that as I rake, rake, and rake some more!

Words 2 Scrap By's September Challenge Theme is "To Everything There is a Season."  Since I have leaves in my yard and The Byrds song, "Turn, Turn, Turn" from 1965, playing over and over in my head, I went with the following card.

I can't believe it is already August - this summer is flying by!  It's time for another fun monthly challenge over at Words 2 Scrap By and it's perfect for this time of year!  School will be starting up before you know it and W2SB's theme this month is based on the famous quote:

"Education is the movement from darkness to light."

A bright future called for a bright card!  The sentiment background was done with a pencil eraser and 3 ink colors.  The DP is from a DCWV paper pad called "The Grade School Stack" and the fishtail banners and alpha die cuts are from MFT.  The finishing touch is a bright yellow starburst and button die cut.

Ooo La La!

Words 2 Scrap By: May Challenge

Well, April Showers bring May Flowers and it doesn't get any better than this!  My two favorite hobbies, cardmaking & gardening, all at one time! 

The fun May Challenge over at Words 2 Scrap By is "Bloom Where You Are Planted."  I'm so excited and honored that Bobbi and Sybrina asked me to be on the W2SB I-Team full-time.  Their challenges are creative and inspiring and I'm in some pretty awesome company!  Thanks again, Ladies!

Words 2 Scrap By April Challenge

Welcome!  I'm so thrilled to be the guest I-Teamer this month for Bobbi & Sybrina's blog, Words 2 Scrap By.  Who doesn't love diamonds...in the sky, in your ears, on your fingers?!?

What a great theme and I had fun with this sparkly card sample.  The background diamond stamp is from Neat & Tangled, heat embossed using Versamark Dazzle and clear embossing powder.  Then I spritzed the background with Silver Glitter Dust from Therm-O-Web.  I added the terrific diamond foil paper and "Shine" sentiment (also Neat & Tangled) on nested diamond dies from Lifestyle Crafts.  The background diamond for the sentiment was stamped with yummy Delicata Silvery Shimmer Ink.  To finish off the card, I tied a sparkly black ribbon and added some bling in the corner.

Now...go get sparkly and shine like a diamond!  We can't wait to see what everyone creates!

W2SB #3: And the Oscar goes to...{Card #2)

This is a second card for W2SB's March Challenge.  I needed a girly card and decided I would go with the second listed theme for inspiration:  "The stuff that dreams are made of" from The Maltese Falcon, 1941.  I hope this card fits the theme.  I think Walt Disney was a dreamer extraordinaire!  Thanks so much for stopping by.  Don't forget to join in the fun and link up a card by March 21st!

Words 2 Scrap By Challenge #3: And the Oscar Goes To...

W2SB launched their 3rd challenge for March in honor of the Oscar ceremony.  The inspiration comes in the form of quotes from a few favorite movies and I hope you'll play along! The movies are:

I love what Bobbi and Sybrina put together because it makes you "think!"  So...I thought and thought and decided I would go with Casablanca and "Here's looking at you, kid."  It's one of my favorite black & white movies and I love the champagne scene between Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.  (This is NOT an OWH-friendly card (glitter) but will make a great anniversary card needed later this month :-).  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Words 2 Scrap By Challenge #2: The Colours of the World

The W2SB Challenge #2 features the Olympic Flag for inspiration.  After watching the opening ceremonies, I thought I would create a CAS card focusing on the grand celebration of the Olympics - the athleticism, diversity, and spirit of the games.  I used this older Penny Black stamp set called "Trims" that has a bunch of funky shapes.  I picked one that made me think of fireworks.  Using Copics to color matching rhinestones and adding a banner sentiment from Hero Arts finished off this card.  Thanks for a great challenge...I enjoyed it!

Words 2 Scrap By Challenge #1 - My Favorite Things

While blog hopping on Operation Write Home, I noticed a new challenge blog called Words 2 Scrap By.  The theme for their first challenge (W2SB#1) is the song My Favorite Things.  Although I'm not really a cat person (allergies), who doesn't love "whiskers on kittens?"  I had this darling cat digi from Doodle Pantry and couldn't resist using it for this challenge.  Best of all...no sneezing involved!!
