Feeling Batty!

Woo Hoo!  I can check off another Halloween card to mail using CAS(E) this Sketch #142:

Here's my card:

The background was watercolored on Strathmore watercolor paper with Distress inks.  This time I let the watercolors dry on their own overnight.  You have no idea how hard that was for me to not keep messing with it - LOL!  The bats are die cut using Memory Box "Swooping Bat" dies and the heat embossed sentiment is from Great Impressions.  The watercolor paper was then layered on Memory Box's Jack-o-Lantern cardstock.  This was a fun sketch to play with...endless possibilities!  Thanks for stopping by today!

PP263: CAS Create a Fall Scene

It's the last day of summer, I've put away my beach/summer theme stuff and pulled out Fall so I could play along with the latest Paper Players Challenge:

The DT cards for these challenges are so amazing and gorgeous. Always such terrific inspiration!

 



For this card, I used a Kraft card base and embossed the front with a Cuttlebug Gingham embossing folder.  The trees and sentiment (Hero Arts Color Layering Fall Trees) were stamped in Memento inks and layered on Fired Brick cardstock.  Maybe I should have added more leaves but I kind of liked the sparseness of them and was a little scared I would screw them up!  Oh well...thanks so much for stopping by!  Happy Fall!

SOS #220 - Show Us Your Smile

Shopping Our Stash wants us to smile this week and create a project with smiles or the word "smile."  I love making Halloween cards and what has a better grin than a big ol' Halloween pumpkin!

The pumpkin face punch from Martha Stewart actually worked this time.  I've had it for a few years and have never had good luck with   Most of the time it just doesn't punch everything unless you sit on it and then there's those irritating pieces that just won't come out. You try to punch out an eye or tooth and it tears and, oh well, I'm sure you've all been there!  I still wonder why I didn't return it!?

Cards In Envy: Colors of Fall

Hi there and welcome to another great challenge over at Cards in Envy!  Create an A2 card flat enough to fit in an envy that showcases the Colors of Fall (oranges, golds, yellows, browns, etc.)

I have a pretty simple card for this challenge that took more time than I care to admit :)

I started with an ivory card base, layered with orange corrugated cardboard.  If you run corrugated cardboard through your Big Shot, it really flattens it out but keeps the great texture.  The next layer is another piece of ivory cardstock, stamped, heat embossed, distressed, and covered with gold Perfect Pearls.  It's very shimmery but you sure can't tell from this photo! Grrrr.

I die cut the leaf out of the center and layered the negative onto the orange layer.  I then die cut the leaf again out of watercolor paper and used distress ink pens and a little water to color it up.  When dry, I inlaid the leaf into the heat embossed layer.  More flatness!  The finishing touches was wrapped twine and some randomly placed rhinestones colored with Copics.

Ok, I gave this a shot.  I say a shot because I had to try and match up these colors the best I could with what I had on hand.  I was a little "lost" with Lost Lagoon but hopefully I came fairly close.  If not, I'm blaming it on my computer screen colors.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Shopping Our Stash #219: Outta This World

The newest SOS Challenge is to create a card using the theme "Outta This World."   We're to create a card using alien images or something celestial.  Well, I searched my stash and came up with some cute monster alien stickers that I must have purchased for my super cute grandson.  I also found this very shiny, holographic star paper that could hopefully pass for "celestial."  So...here's what I came up with:

If you stare at the planet too long, your eyes will cross!  Ask me how I know...  I used SSS Falling Stars background stamp in Delicata Silver Ink.  The speech bubble is an MFT die.  I computer generated the sentiment and colored with lime green Wink of Stella.  I added a few punched stars from the same holographic paper (Hobby Lobby) and my little monster alien is ready for the mail.

Live Love Cards September Challenge: Sparkle & Shine

The Live Love Cards Challenge for September is to create a card with Sparkle & Shine.  Although it doesn't say "holiday," it's a great jumping off point to get going on those Christmas Cards!

This card was fun to make.  Lots of techniques!  The hardest part was stopping when I knew I should :-)  First, the tree line was stamped (Tim Holtz) and heat embossed with white detail embossing powder.  Liquid Frisket was applied in small dots for stars to resist the Distress inks that were applied for the sky (Chipped Sapphire, Faded Jeans, & Salty Ocean).  After the Frisket was rubbed off, the Santa and Reindeer die cut (Die-Versions) was glued on.  The "believe" sentiment was die cut and heat embossed with Black Sparkle embossing powder (Ranger) then glued on.  The panel was popped up on a white card base.  The finishing touch was a mini pearl colored with a Copic marker for Rudolph's nose and Santa was on his way!

Tuesday Morning Sketches #317

I needed a birthday card for a good guy friend and Tuesday Morning Sketches to the rescue!  I really liked this sketch and it was a great jumping off point to use a "new to me" stamp!

 

My friend is a chocoholic so, of course, I had to have chocolate frosting :-).  The Tim Holtz cupcake image was stamped on Ranger watercolor paper with StazOn Spiced Chai ink.  I used Distress inks to watercolor the image, Glossy Accents for a glowing candle, and a white Irresistible Pico Embellisher to add some sprinkles.  I layered the Crate Paper DSP on a MFT Kraft cardstock base, then added a gold paperclip star and a snippet of twine.  I hope he likes it and the best news is that this one will be mailed on time!  Thanks so much for stopping - I hope you have a wonderful weekend!



The Paper Players Challenge #261: Lunchbox Love

The Lunchbox Love theme is perfect for this week because my grandson started Kindergarten and his parents love to stick little notes in his lunch or backpack!  I'm thinking Grandma can sneak some in there too!

I don't know where this stamp came from but when I found it in my stash it brought fond memories and inspiration for my notecard.  My Mom wasn't a note writer back in the day, but she did often say this to me when I left for school, "Remember to smile today because I love you."

Cards in Envy Challenge: Inspired by a Song

Happy Labor Day and it's time for another great challenge over at Cards in Envy!  The latest theme is to create an A2 card (flat enough to mail) that is inspired by a song. 

My card was inspired by the song "Somewhere Over The Rainbow."  The Wizard of Oz is still one of my favorite movies, and yes, the flying monkeys STILL scare me!  Although I no longer hide behind the couch when they come on :-)

I first stamped the sentiment and then embossed the white layer with a cloud embossing folder.  I die cut the rainbow and clouds and layered the negative onto a black card base.  I used the same die on red, yellow, and blue cardstock.  I also die cut glittery fun foam (1/8" thick) for the clouds.  I inlaid all the pieces into the negative.  I like how the fun foam looked a little popped up after inlaying...bonus!  Sprinkled some sequins and it was good to go!

W2SB #21: Ahoy, Matey!!

Well, shiver me timbers, it's time for another creative challenge over at Words 2 Scrap By!  The theme this month is "Ahoy, Matey" in honor of National Talk Like A Pirate Day on September 19th.  There's a wonderful prize in our treasure chest from Paper Smooches so we hope you'll play along!

My I-Teamer card for a little inspiration:

My pirate birdie, pirate ship, DSP, and sentiment are from Doodle Pantry.  I printed the pirate birdie twice so I could fussy cut the wing and pirate hat to pop them up.  The buttons were punched with Martha Stewart's button punch to match the striped strip (say that 3 times fast).  Hope everything is "shipshape" in your corner of the world and you'll find some time this month to link up.
